Get a Background Check

Step 1: Fill out 2 digital forms

You need to submit a completed DCF Authorization Form and an FBI Privacy Rights Act Statement. You can now fill out both forms safely and securely online.

Complete your background check forms online.

Prefer to print out your forms and send them by mail? Follow these instructions.

Step 2: Schedule a LiveScan Digital Fingerprint Appointment

OEC is partnering with 211 Child Care to collect fingerprints digitally and securely transmit them directly to DESPP. This saves you time and money. No fee, no mess, less time, and — best of all — no printing onto cards, which greatly reduces the rate of fingerprint rejections.

Schedule your digital fingerprint appointment.

On the day of your appointment, remember to bring your current government- or school-issued photo ID with you. No friends, food, or drink allowed.

Would you prefer to submit traditional fingerprints by mail? Follow these instructions.

OEC is paying background check fees

The Office of Early Childhood is paying the background check processing fees for applications postmarked or digitally submitted between August 4, 2020 and April 1, 2021. Starting April 2, 2021, you will need to submit a processing fee payment.

3. Make sure you’ve submitted everything

Remember, to get a background check you need to submit:

  • Fingerprints
  • Completed DCF Authorization form
  • Signed FBI Privacy Rights Act Statement form
  • Processing fee payment (but only if you submit after April 1, 2021)

That’s all there is to it. If you don’t hear from us in a month or two, you can assume we didn’t find any problems in your background check.

If there are issues, we will send you a letter explaining why and what you can do. Learn more about getting your results.
